Small Business Services...

Please remember to pay your farrier and vet fees when they are due. Not only are you supporting the cash flow small business requires to continue to operate, it also ensures that we as barn managers are able to schedule these professionals to return in case of urgent matters relating to lost shoes or vet services. Just a few days ago we received a few farrier notices that totaled $1000 of past dues. It is extremely frustrating to schedule return visits for lost shoes only to be reminded that previous invoices remain unpaid. Even though our farrier has not charged for lost shoes in the past we are aware that this may not continue especially with fuel prices at an all time high. Thank you for your immediate attention to this matter and to those of you who continue to keep up with the payment terms, it’s appreciated :)

Dr. Yates Visit...

Dr. Angie Yates will be traveling through our area again this coming weekend either Saturday or Sunday (April 2nd or 3rd) for adjustments or lameness issues. She’s got all of the equipment now including new x-ray and ultrasound, etc. Anyone wanting services please advise ASAP so we can organize. Once I receive the update from her as to which day I’ll advise everyone. :)

Wash Rack Update...

As many of you were aware, the wash rack has been clogged for a few days and we finally managed to get it up and running yesterday. It appears that horse hair from body clipping and mane pulling was the main culprit. The mats in the wash rack are designed to be anti-slippery so unfortunately they will also “hold on” to a lot of the hair even after sweeping with the broom. We are coming into the time of year where having a wash rack is essential for bathing and hosing off sweaty horses. The wash rack is for hosing only, no clipping or mane pulling! Thank you :)

EXCITING Equine Wellness Update...

As most of you are aware, we’ve been looking to replace the equine chiropractic services Dr. Angie Yates used to provide. We’ve been unsuccessful in doing so since her move to Florida over a year ago. During an unrelated conversation with her yesterday we were informed of her travels back to Indiana once a month for such services and are beyond excited that we were able to schedule her to return to Sport Horse next Wednesday afternoon, March 2nd! Her sessions are now billed at $150 per horse which includes the farm call/travel expenses. Anyone interested in having their horse adjusted next week please email me (sporthorseinc@gmail.) as soon as possible, spots will fill up quickly and the schedule will be dictated by the order in which your requests were received!

Equine Wellness Schedule Updates...

The Equine Dentist will be here next Tuesday the 1st of March with a very long list of floats. To confirm your participation please leave the $250 check payable to Hippologic by this Saturday the 26th of February!

Spring vaccines & fecals have also been scheduled with Janssen Vet Clinic at 14:00 Wednesday, March 9th. In light of the recent EHV outbreak in CA coupled with several coggins expiring the end of February we elected an earlier time of year to maximize vaccine effectiveness by our departure for the March 22nd-27th show at WEC. More details on this visit will follow via separate cover.

DDS 2022 Update...

Tuesday, March 1 has been deemed annual float day!!!! Since this is the 3rd time we’ve tried to schedule him we’re hoping for success?! Not to mention it “should” be warmer by then….

The following horses are on “the list” based on their schedule:

Nicolette, Bubba, Dublin, Heisty, Apollo, Sandro, Lucky

Anyone wanting to be added or taken off the list, please advise. Another notification will be sent out middle of February to finalize participants.

Thank you :)

The woes of old man winter...

Ugh, it’s here 🥶 and this past week let us know with a frigid vengeance! Mary managed to get the insulated buckets up and tend to everyone at home in our absence, thank you Mary :) She has also offered her body clipping services for $130, if you’re wanting to get on her schedule please contact her directly for specifics (mobile number 317-610-7675). If your horse requires sedation to be clipped you will have to plan accordingly, scheduling with Alex for Brian to administer (service will be billed separately).

It’s also the time of year when horses are blanketed, a lot, making it hard to gauge weight gain or loss. Please bring any weight changes to our attention as soon as they’re noticeable by your daily handling/riding. The earlier caught the quicker we can jump into action and prevent furthering changes. We do however ask for all notifications to be in writing. With the daily care of 25 horses and an average of 75 lessons a week it is not uncommon for a casual barn conversation to be overlooked/forgotten. We appreciate your understanding and continued support to help us manage all things equine :)

Crazy Weather Update...

One of our basic philosophies has always been to turn horses out. Every day if possible. It’s their inherent nature to be outside and romp and graze and have social interaction. Winter is usually no exception. This winter is proving to be a bit of a challenge. We all appear to be enjoying the warmer temperatures and secretly hoping they just stay where they are. The flip side (and there’s always a flip side) is the rain and the mud and the mud and the rain. Nothing has frozen solid yet making for shoe sucking and tendon tweaking a daily possiblity! Our regular turn out regiment is becoming irregular and the horses are mildly stir crazy. We hope to get back to business as usual sooner rather than later, only time and mother nature will tell…

January 2022 WEC Shows Update Reminder...

Stall fees for January 26-30 WEC (USEF rated) are due by next Sunday, January 2nd 2022. If you are planning on attending you need to drop a check for $175 payable to Arena Horse Shows in the barn payment box by the deadline date above. Your intention of showing will only be solidified with a stall reservation payment, no exceptions. Thank you :)

Fall 2021 Immunization & Fecal Follow Up

It has been brought to my attention that the fecals during the late fall visit by Dr. McGill of Janssen Vet Clinic were overlooked and not completed. We have discussed this oversight with their office and it is back on the schedule for spring of 2022. For anyone wanting to de-worm their horse prior to then they suggested Equimax or Zimectrin Gold.

January 2022 WEC Shows Updates...

Anyone interested in either of the January WEC shows, please note: Stall fees for the January 5-9 show are due Thursday December 2nd, stall fees for January 26-30 are due Thursday December 23rd. If you are planning on attending either or both shows you need to drop a check for $175 payable to Arena Horse Shows in the barn payment box by the deadline dates above. Your intention of showing will only be solidified with a stall reservation payment, no exceptions. Please note in the memo section which week it should be applied to. Thank you :)

Hot weather update...

Good news y’all! The electrician was finally able to make it out and install the new electrical outlets for stall fans and heated water buckets. SO… Let the stall fan shopping begin??? We are requiring all stall fans to be with a fully enclosed motor, a direct-drive waterproof rated outdoor fan with a wall mounting bracket (see example below).

Unfortunately they are expensive but much safer and most come with a 3 year warranty. We are planning on installing by this Saturday/Sunday, anyone interested in purchasing through us please let me know ASAP. We’d be happy to pick extras up pending inventory availability. Stay cool y’all!

Horse Shows 2021...

We’ve looked over the options for the remainder of the 2021 show season and wanted to reach out with an update and details. We had not planned anything concrete after the June Brave Horse and July Robert Murphy Show however with the increased interest in showing and for the sake of planning here we go…

First news we wanted to share is the closing of Hill Top Farm (i.e. Wild Air or Traders Point) as of October of 2021. After the passing of a family member and the aging of another the family has decided to sell the property so showing there will no longer be an option after this show season. IHJA will be hosting the Annual Show there for the last time the end of July/beginning of August, anyone interested should sign up early as this show has typically sold out quickly. New to the local circuit will be a September IHJA show hosted at the Hoosier Horse Park (yes, we do have one) in Edinburg, Indiana. We’re excited about this opportunity and look forward to our first visit there since several years. Again, we expect stalls will sell out quickly with the limited availability of local schooling shows.

New on the schedule for the first time ever will be the Traverse City Fall Horse Show in Traverse City, Michigan September 8-12 hosted by the American Gold Cup Group. Live Lucky and Brian will be competing in the USHJA Young Jumper Championships for 5 year olds. If you’ve never been it’ll be well worth the drive to visit (and cheer us on) or compete. Plan on staying all week and check out other local attractions, there is tons to do and the weather in September should be spectacular!

To conclude the 2021 schedule are the National Equitation Finals in Kentucky (October 27-31). A couple of weeks prior to the finals Brave Horse in October was originally on the radar however it is a Split Rock venue and stalls will be $300-400 depending temporary or permanent stalling. Based on this pricing, we opted to forgo this show and go back to WEC October 6-10 instead. Even though we have shown at WEC extensively, it will be the first NSBA vs. USEF rated show. As most of you are probably aware, WEC has opted to no longer host USEF rated shows after this past May. We are unfamiliar with the NSBA (National Snaffle Bit Association) but after doing some research their memberships are priced reasonably and the high standards and quality of the show does not appear to be affected in any way. Unfortunately anyone looking to add USEF points for year end qualifications will be unable to do so here but we are certain they will have their own programs in place by the end of their first Hunter/Jumper year.

The schedule is attached, share your thoughts and input! Within the next few days I will post schedule updates with these shows along with the cost estimates and prize lists (if available), look for those in your email inbox. Happy showing y’all :)

Did someone say "party"?????...

It’s been on the to-do list since before the weather broke, BUT when spring happened and all the projects and usual “spring things” exploded the schedule got exhausted. Well no more! We’re putting on the brakes to stop and smell the roses so to speak. Whitestown is having their annual Independence Day Celebration on Saturday the 3rd of July beginning at 17:00 and what a perfect opportunity to plan for a get-together. Not to mention the fireworks show is just south of Sport Horse and our front pasture makes for a perfect viewing spot! So… Don’t make other plans, keep us on the radar and we’ll update y’all with more details as we approach this momentous occasion :)

A tall glass of water...

We want to start off this message to tell everyone that we are so grateful for each and every one of you. Over these past few years, we have grown in ways that we never imagined and you all are the ones that make that possible. On that note, we have absolutely noticed that our business has grown much faster than we ever anticipated or were ready for. We recognize there will need to be some things that will need to change in order to more efficiently and effectively work together.

One immediate issue that has come to light is inconsistent farrier services with Danvers. Recent discussions have been had with Danvers and efforts have been made so that going forward, service will be consistent. However, if you want to bring your own farrier to the barn you are more than welcome to do so. Please understand that if you choose to bring your own farrier you will be responsible for scheduling them to be on-site, must be present for the shoeing, and it must be within the set barn hours of Tuesday-Sunday 9:00am-9:00pm. All farriers will be scheduled on a first come first serve basis to allow ample access to the facilities.

And speaking of scheduling, with school out for summer the lesson schedule will get a much needed makeover. Priority to students/boarders scheduled to show within 30 days will be given and all private lessons scheduled with Brian will require regular show participation. A new Sunday morning group session with Brian will be added but a separate communication in this regard will follow.

Looking forward our next goals are to better organize for horse shows specifically the following; rigid schedule set for the year, commitments to shows 3months in advance, minimum of 4 horses and maximum of 8 horses per show with a first come first service (with check).

We are also seeking ways to hear and respond to your complaints/comments/suggestions, ideas etc. to discuss issues, to set and communicate long term goals, or to help with gaps in knowledge. To accommodate this we will be available at the end of the Sunday morning group session (around noon) to chat. Scheduling this time in advance is encouraged as our attention will clearly be on a first come first serve basis.

Overall, we are so excited to keep moving forward, we will continue to improve where we can! See you all at the barn!!
